College Jewellery Student Highly Commended in Prestigious National Design Competition

Kris Muir and Lisa McGovern

We’re delighted to share that one of our HND2 Jewellery students, Kris Muir, has been Highly Commended in the Worshipful Company of Cutlers Contemporary Cutlery Design Competition, held at the historic Cutlers’ Hall in London.

This national competition celebrates innovation in contemporary cutlery design and gives emerging designers the opportunity to have their work professionally produced and added to the Company’s prestigious collection.

Being the first time our College has entered, and with competitors from university-level courses across the UK, this recognition is an outstanding achievement that reflects the creativity, technical skill, and professionalism of our students.

Lisa McGovern, Curriculum Head, Craft & Design, who attended the event on behalf of lecturer David Finlay, who led and supported the project, said:

“It was such a brilliant evening and an incredible celebration of creativity and craftsmanship. Seeing our student’s work recognised among so many talented designers was a real proud moment, it truly highlights the high standard of teaching, collaboration, and innovation within our Craft and Design department.”

This commendation marks a significant milestone for the Jewellery team and the wider Craft and Design department, reinforcing the College’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and providing students with opportunities to showcase their skills on national platforms.

Congratulations to our talented student Kris Muir, a fantastic achievement that shines a light on the exciting future of contemporary craft and design at our College.
