College Lecturer Honoured with Inaugural Anne Beveridge Award
City of Glasgow College is proud to announce that lecturer Cheryl Kinloch has been named the first recipient of the Anne Beveridge Award, in recognition of her outstanding work helping students understand and challenge sectarianism.
The award, presented by anti-sectarianism charity Nil by Mouth, commemorates Anne Beveridge, a long-serving trustee of the charity who played a pivotal role in developing its education programme and promoting equality in schools across Lanarkshire for more than 20 years. Anne passed away in 2024, and the award was created to honour her legacy by celebrating education professionals who go above and beyond to foster equality.
Since 2015, Cheryl has been an integral part of the charity’s Pitch Perfect programme, delivered in partnership with City of Glasgow College. The initiative gives students the chance to design marketing campaigns highlighting the impact of sectarian behaviour, while gaining HNC/D qualifications. Over the past decade, more than 1,000 students have taken part, with their campaigns reaching audiences across Scotland, including recognition from football fans, the Scottish Government, Parliament, and UEFA.
Emma Alexander, Partnership Manager at Nil by Mouth, said: "Anne Beveridge will always be remembered as a woman who rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in when it came to equality. Cheryl has shown the same dedication to the Pitch Perfect programme, going over and above for her students and helping the initiative gain recognition with the SQA. She has inspired countless students and is the type of lecturer every parent hopes their child will have."
Cheryl Kinloch commented: "Working with Nil by Mouth over the last decade has been a highlight of my career. Their commitment to our students bridges the gap between classroom learning and the real world, providing tough, constructive feedback that inspires growth. I’m incredibly proud to accept this award in memory of Anne Beveridge, whose legacy continues to inspire. I look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting students to reach their full potential."
Jacquie Shaw, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries, added: “City of Glasgow College is incredibly proud of Cheryl. Her leadership of the Pitch Perfect project within our HND Advertising & PR programme exemplifies her commitment to education, inclusion, and community impact. She helps students explore challenging themes with sensitivity and confidence, reflecting the values championed by Nil by Mouth."
The award was presented to Cheryl by Nil by Mouth staff at the College ahead of the launch of the 2026 Pitch Perfect competition, marking another milestone in a decade-long partnership that continues to empower students and challenge sectarianism through education.
