College Student Launches Hearts for the Homeless Campaign

City of Glasgow College is proud of marketing student Abigail Thom, whose compassion and commitment to social change were on display this festive season as she launched her community campaign, Hearts for the Homeless.

Abigail took to the streets of Glasgow city centre alongside volunteers to support people experiencing homelessness during one of the most challenging times of the year. Through the campaign, Abigail and her team distributed 20 essential care packages, each containing warm clothing, thermal wear, emergency blankets and festive treats. Additional clothing donations were also delivered to The Wayside soup kitchen in the city centre.

Adding a personal and thoughtful touch, Abigail hand-delivered bespoke heart-shaped Christmas cards to every individual she met, reinforcing the campaign’s message of dignity, compassion and human connection.

Reflecting on her motivation, Abigail said: “Hearts for the Homeless is about providing warmth and dignity to those who are often overlooked. It’s a reminder that everyone deserves to be seen and supported, especially during the festive season.”

The initiative was supported by Tam Stephen, Manager at the British Heart Foundation in Kilmarnock, who helped source essential materials, and was delivered in collaboration with volunteer group The Streets, who joined forces with Abigail after being inspired by her dedication.

Marketing lecturer, Ailie Gunn said: “Abigail’s campaign is a strong example of how our students apply their learning in real-world contexts. At City of Glasgow College, we encourage students to use their skills to make a positive social impact, and Abigail has done exactly that. We are incredibly proud of her compassion, commitment and determination.”

City of Glasgow College commends Abigail for her empathy, initiative and leadership, and looks forward to seeing how Hearts for the Homeless continues to grow and inspire others across our community.
