DF Concerts Academy Partners with Events Management students
City of Glasgow College Events Management students are gaining exceptional industry exposure thanks to an exciting new partnership with the DF Concerts Academy. Created to support student development and strengthen pathways into the concerts and festival sector, the Academy brings together learners from across Scotland to experience the realities of working in one of the country’s most dynamic creative industries.
The programme began in October with a visit from Andy Dunlop, Head of Concerts at DF Concerts, who introduced students to the aims of the Academy, discussed his own career journey, and outlined the diverse opportunities available within the sector. In November, students next ventured behind the scenes at some of Scotland’s most iconic venues, including King Tut’s, SWG3 and the OVO Hydro, gaining a rare insight into the operational planning and coordination required to deliver live events of all sizes.
December saw DF Concerts host students at the SEC for an intensive “table top session”, where they were invited to work through simulated scenarios based on real industry challenges. The experience highlighted the high-level decision-making, collaboration and problem-solving skills essential to managing large-scale concerts and festivals.
The learning journey continues in January, when students will observe industry meetings with external partners through an online session, followed by a week of guest speakers in February who will share further insights into their roles and the wider events landscape. The programme will conclude in March with a jobs fair designed to connect students directly with potential employers, providing routes into summer internships and the possibility of paid employment with DF Concerts or one of its partner organisations.
Lecturer Caroline Ross praised the impact of the partnership, describing it as a transformative experience for students:
“This collaboration with the DF Concerts Academy has opened doors that many of our learners wouldn’t normally have access to. The chance to engage so closely with industry professionals, visit leading venues and take part in real-world planning exercises is developing their skills and confidence in ways that truly prepare them for meaningful careers. It has been inspiring to see how motivated and energised our students are as a result of this opportunity.”
City of Glasgow College extends its thanks to DF Concerts Academy for its continued support in helping nurture the next generation of events professionals.
