Kirsty Wark gives broadcasting students an inside track on the industry
City of Glasgow College broadcasting students heard first-hand from one of Scotland’s best-known journalists and broadcasters when Kirsty Wark visited the College for a special keynote session.
The event which was held through the Speakers for Schools programme, gave students the opportunity to hear Kirsty’s perspective on the current broadcasting landscape in the UK, the opportunities available in Glasgow and across Scotland, and how they can prepare for successful careers while still in education.
Drawing on her extensive experience in television and journalism, Kirsty also offered practical advice on breaking into the industry, developing professional networks and building the skills, resilience and adaptability needed during the early stages of a broadcasting career.
The session reflects City of Glasgow College’s strong links with industry and its commitment to giving students access to people working at the highest levels of their profession.
Speakers for Schools, now part of social mobility charity Futures For All, connects schools and colleges with high-profile professionals to give young people access to career insight, advice and inspiration.
BA Television student Ash Anderson said:
“Kirsty was an incredibly interesting and captivating person to listen to. Not only does she have so much experience and knowledge to pass on to young students, she has an infectious passion for the industry.
“She was eager and attentive when listening to questions and gave each individual person a lot of time and respect. It was clear how much she wants to give advice and help others get into the industry.”
The visit forms part of the College’s wider approach to connecting learning with the world of work, helping students build industry awareness, professional confidence and networks before they graduate.
