City of Glasgow College is proud to welcome Lauren Dunsmore, a talented young athlete from Cumbernauld, who has recently represented Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Lauren, aged 17, was one of just seven Taekwondo athletes selected to compete for Team GB at the prestigious multi-sport event, which brings together Europe’s most promising young competitors. Competing in the -44kg category, Lauren reached the quarterfinals, narrowly missing a bronze medal and finishing in an impressive fourth place.

Reflecting on the experience, Lauren said:

“I had the privilege of experiencing a major event with Great Britain athletes across multiple sports. I believe that the whole experience will help me push forward in my dreams of being a successful ranked Taekwondo player. The whole experience will be one I will never forget. My passion is Taekwondo, and I love my sport, and that is why I have chosen the course of Sports Therapy. I would love to have a successful time as a Taekwondo athlete and have my education in sports aided along the way with the knowledge I learn from my college courses.”

Lauren is about to begin her HND Sports Therapy studies at City of Glasgow College, following in the footsteps of her coach Robert Robertson, who is also a former student of the College. With a clear ambition to combine her sporting career with academic success, she hopes her studies will complement her training and future aspirations in elite sport.

Her coach, Robert Robertson of RAW Taekwondo Scotland, said:

“Lauren has worked tirelessly for this moment. Her selection to Team GB is a huge achievement not just for her, but for the sport in Scotland. She’s a great ambassador for what young athletes from our communities can achieve.”

Lauren’s success at the EYOF marks another milestone in the growing contribution of Scottish athletes to Team GB’s Olympic journey, and she is already being tipped as a strong contender for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026.

We are delighted to have Lauren join our College community and look forward to supporting her both in the classroom and in her future sporting achievements.
