Student Esports Team Reaches National Quarter Finals After Dominant Victory

A talented group of students from City of Glasgow College are celebrating a major milestone after their esports team, the Purple Unicorns, secured a place in the quarter finals of the British Esports Student Championships 2025-26.

Competing in the Overwatch 2 division, the team delivered an impressive 3 to 0 victory against Franklin College Grimsby in their latest fixture on Wednesday 25 March. The win marks the culmination of months of dedication, with the competition running weekly since October.

The Purple Unicorns squad, made up of students Micheal Lawson, Holly Barclay, Alex Kont, Clyde Lauder and Ronin Smith, has shown consistent skill, teamwork and determination throughout the tournament, representing the college with pride on a national stage.

Special recognition also goes to team member Martin McMullen for his outstanding leadership of the Purple Unicorns, helping to guide and motivate the team throughout the competition.

Their next challenge comes in the quarter final clash against Cambria Chimeras of Coleg Cambria, taking place on 22 April at 4pm. The match will be streamed live, offering supporters the chance to cheer on the team as they aim for a place in the semi-finals.
