Students get behind the scenes of major Glasgow film production

School College Partnership students got a taste of life behind the camera when they were given an exciting behind-the-scenes visit to a major film production in Glasgow City Centre.

The students visited the filming set on 27 August, gaining a unique insight into the work that goes into bringing a large-scale film production to life.

Led by lecturer Steph Hyams, the visit gave students the chance to see a professional production environment first-hand and experience an industry many hope to enter after completing their studies.

For the students, it was a memorable opportunity to see the film industry up close.

One student said: “A very amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Another added: “I found it really fun. It was very interesting to see behind the scenes and all the different props. I recommend it and would like to do it again sometime.”

The visit also helped students connect the skills they are developing through their Television Production studies with the realities of working in the professional film and television industry.

One student summed up the experience: “Really fun, wish we stayed longer and could go on the actual set but was still very cool!”

Steph Hyams, Lecturer in Model Making, 3D Design & Drama, said: “The visit to the Batman set was an exciting way to launch a new project and give the students some real context. It also allowed them to see what is possible as a career once they finish their studies with us.”

Opportunities such as this give students valuable exposure to the creative industries, helping them understand the scale, skills and professionalism involved in major productions taking place right here in Glasgow.
