Photography, TV and Journalism Students

Our photography, TV and journalism students were given lots of exciting opportunities to work together and get involved with COP26 events:-

  • Photography students Martyna Rybitwa and Thaiza de Cesaro were on hand to capture a lecture and Q&A with Grete Feramo, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services. The event, which explored the UNs role in engaging and supporting business in the climate crisis with questions from a student audience, was also filmed by journalism students, Megan McClelland, Victoria MacLeod, Connor Silcock and Aidan Foy. Ryan Miller and Donald Erskine captured audio interviews.
  • Journalism students, Liam Murphy and Patrick Leonard wrote about the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce ‘Climate Chamber Mission’ which was held at the college’s City campus. Over 100 delegates from more than 15 countries attended the event.
  • Carly McCann, Kate Stevenson, Euan Wood and Sarah McCallum took up the mantle at the college’s Voyage to Carbon Zero seminar held in the Marine Skills Centre at Riverside campus. They interviewed Michael Matheson MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport.
  • TV and journalism students are working together on three television programmes - Peatlands, Young Voices and How Green is Scotland, highlighting climate issues. TV students filmed and produced the programmes, with journalism students presenting them and students from our computer animation course creating title sequences and graphics. A huge production involving over 150 students – and a few dozen members of staff!
  • BA photography students, Adam Boyd and Rowan Syed-Tollan, took some fantastic photos of puppets Storm and Little Amal, who met at the old Graving Docks in Govan. 10 metre tall Storm was brought into the city to highlight the impact of the climate crisis on our oceans. 3.5 metre tall Amal depicts a young Syrian refugee. The students caught the puppets perfectly as they paraded together through Govan surrounded by crowds of onlookers.
  • As an official partner of COY16 - UN Climate Change Conference of Youth – students at City of Glasgow College have been applauded for their support every step of the way. One of COY’s major outputs was its Global Youth Statement which was passed directly to COP26 President, Alok Sharma. A video to accompany the Youth Statement was played during its formal handover to Alok Sharma. It was produced by three BA (Hons) Television students at City of Glasgow College, David McMorrison, Benjamin Ross and Craig Nixon.
