Our City Market Bakery provides an excellent real-world learning experience for the students. They must turn around real-world baking within a specific time and to a consistently high standard, and they are seeing immediate results when people not only buy their produce but return and become regular customers. As a regular part of their coursework, students create a range of cakes, scones pastries, bread and rolls for the City Market Bakery which has proved to be very popular with members of the public and a welcome addition to Cathedral Street.
City Market has its own award-winning in-house baker who supplements the items that come from the bakery and patisserie classes. We have a selection of baked goods, salads, sandwiches, pastries, barista coffees, cold drinks and ice cream for sale. We sometimes have freshly butchered meat and fresh fish for sale too. City of Glasgow College’s City Market Bakery scooped five top prizes in the 2023 Scottish Baker of the Year Awards. The prizes were presented at a ceremony hosted by Scottish Bakers who support and promote the interests of Scottish bakers across the country.
