Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary ProcedureÂ
IntroductionÂ
At City of Glasgow College, we’re committed to helping every student succeed in a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Â
We want all students to feel safe, valued, and empowered. That means any behaviour that harms the dignity, safety, or comfort of others will be taken seriously. This Code of Conduct outlines what is expected from you as a student so we can all work and learn together positively.Â
Student Code of Conduct
These expectations apply to all students and applicants — on campus, online, and during any College-related activity. This list isn’t exhaustive, but it provides clear guidance – full details of college policies can be found on our website.  If these expectations aren’t met, disciplinary action may be taken.Â
As a student at City of Glasgow College, you are expected to:Â
- 1. Respect
-
Treat everyone — students, staff, and the wider community — with respect and professionalism, both in person and online.
-
Don’t disrupt classes or college spaces through inappropriate actions or language.
- 2. Attendance
-
Be on time, be prepared and be willing to engage.
-
Attend your classes and activities as timetabled.
- 3. Health, Safety, and Wellbeing

Take care of your wellbeing and use the College’s support services when needed.

-
Support efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment.
- 5. Digital Responsibility

Use College devices and platforms respectfully and legally.
-
Never record or share videos, photos, or audio of others without their permission.
- 6. Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination
-
Bullying and harassment are unacceptable, whether they occur on campus, online, or in any situation related to college business.
-
Whether someone means to or not, discrimination will not be tolerated at college or online and could result in legal action.
- 7. Substance Use
-
Don’t attend college under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
-
Smoking or vaping is not permitted on campus in line with Scottish Legislation.
- 8. Academic Integrity
-
Be honest in your studies — plagiarism, cheating, or any kind of academic dishonesty is unacceptable.
-
The College has an Academic Integrity policy and uses tools like Turnitin to check your work.
- 9. Legal and Social Responsibility
- Don’t take part in any criminal behaviour, including anything that breaks counter-terrorism laws.
-
Be considerate of your neighbours and respectful in public, especially near College property.
- Student Disciplinary Procedure
-
You have new evidence that wasn’t available at the time.
-
You believe the correct College procedures weren’t followed.
-
You can bring forward any relevant evidence.
-
You may be accompanied by a supporter or Student Advisor. They can’t speak during the meeting but can offer moral support.
The College uses a three-stage process to handle behaviour that doesn’t meet expectations.
Stage 1 – Minor Concerns
Used for less serious, one-off incidents that have limited impact. Often resolved quickly and informally.
Stage 2 – Repeated or More Serious Issues
Used if problems continue or the behaviour is more serious. You’ll be asked to attend a meeting with a Curriculum Head or Head of Service.
Stage 3 – Serious Misconduct
For serious breaches of conduct or gross misconduct. You’ll be invited to a formal Stage 3 disciplinary meeting.
Appeals
You can appeal any disciplinary decision if:
Suspension
In rare and serious situations, a student may be temporarily suspended while an investigation is carried out. The College will make sure this process is handled fairly and quickly.
