Abbie Wilson, HNC Computer Aided Architectural Design and Technology

Abbie Wilson

After leaving school at 17, I wasn’t sure what direction to take. While many of my friends went straight into university or work, I wanted more time to explore my interests and make the right decision for my future.

I had a passion for architecture from my art studies, but I didn’t feel ready to commit to a four-year university degree just yet. Choosing the HNC at City of Glasgow College turned out to be the perfect step. The course helped me build both my confidence and practical skills, giving me a much clearer understanding of the subject.

The support from lecturers has been fantastic - they’ve encouraged me every step of the way and created a really positive learning environment. Moving on from school can feel overwhelming, but the HNC offers a great balance. It’s more independent than school but less intense than university, which made it easier to adjust.

I’ve really enjoyed my time at college, and the support I’ve received has made a real difference in preparing me for what’s next. The workload has been manageable, and with guidance from staff I’ve developed strong time management and independent working skills that I know will benefit me in the future. Most importantly, the encouragement and support from the college have helped build my confidence and feel fully prepared to take the next step to university.

I’m now looking forward to starting the BArch at the Mackintosh School of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art after the summer.

I’d highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to explore their interests, develop their skills, and build confidence before moving on. It’s been a valuable and enjoyable experience that’s helped me shape my future.
